LGRE’s Scratby Hall Hume’s Warbler

January 26, 2017

We would like to thank one of our readers for the tip-off regarding George on the 9th Dec, 2016. More comments on George’s 2016 bubo list are very welcome.

On the 9th, George (the self-appointed ‘judge, jury & executioner’ & ‘policeman’ of birding) was spotted at West Mersea, Junco site from around 10:00 until 14:00.

On the 9th, George was on twitter near Amersham (i.e. Little Chalfont) until 08:12.

George’s 2016 UK400 list on bubo claims he saw the Hume’s Warbler at Scratby Hall on the 9th but without any witnesses. Note that George has in the past fabricated witness names.

Its about 84 miles from Little Chalfont to West Mersea so George could not have seen this Hume’s in the morning.

George was also on the 9th on twitter at Little Chalfont from 5:03 pm onwards.

Its around 87 miles from West Mersea to Scratby Hall, south of Winterton-on-Sea, so about 1.5 hours drive. From Scratby to Little Chalfont its around 2.5 hours. So its a 4 hour drive to see the Hume’s from West Mersea and get home.

So George could not have seen the Hume’s in the afternoon and get back by 5 pm, unless he was using his TARDIS again.

Even if George had gone to see the Hume’s it would have been very difficult. The 09:52 RBA message said the Hume’s was mobile and elusive. The last RBA message for the day at 13:46 said there was no sign between 10:30 and 12:30.
